Governor Hochul is hoarding donations, as rivals struggle to keep pace
The big real estate funders have a habit of sticking with politically moderate incumbents who they perceive to be doing a decent job. This year seems no different. Ms. Hochul, the licensee in question, continued to collect donations from owners and developers.
Jerry Speyer, the chairman of Rockefeller Center owner Tishman Speyer, donated $50,000 to Ms. Hochul’s campaign in April. Donald Capoccia, managing director of Brooklyn-based developer BFC Partners, donated $25,000. James L. Dolan, who controls Madison Square Garden — which sits atop Penn Station that Ms. Hochul is renovating — donated $69,700.
“In real estate, you are only as strong as the communities where you do business,” said Rechler, who was one of former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s biggest donors. in a press release. “Governor Hochul recognizes that building stronger communities requires investing in infrastructure, focusing on quality of life and prioritizing public safety.
